3D TABLE FOOTBALL × FLICK TO KICK
Subbuteo-style table football in 3D: flick your figures, beat the computer.
⏱ 5 OR 10 MINUTES A MATCH · RUNS IN YOUR BROWSER · SAVES AUTOMATICALLY
The machine simulates hundreds of flicks before every move. It has never had a finger, flicked anything or been told off for kicking a figure under the sofa. It still beats us.
THE PROMPT THAT STARTED IT ALL 🧠
> Create me a game based on Subbuteo. You should be able to play against a computer "AI". you are free to pick the style and presentation (2D. 2.5D, 3D, realistic, low poly, etc)▌
That’s it. That’s the brief. Everything else — every line of code, every pixel, every note — came out of the machine. Typos preserved for authenticity.Disclosure: a human may have intervened afterwards, when the machine made the first upgrade cost more than the GDP of Wales, or decided a run should last eleven hours. Even then, the human only fixed it by typing more prompts and sighing loudly. 🫠
Flick Football is a 3D table football game for one player against the computer. Each side has ten outfield figures on weighted bases and a goalkeeper on a rod, and you play by flicking one figure at a time into the ball.
The rules follow the table game. You keep the ball while your flicked figure plays it and no opponent touches it, and one figure can flick three times in a row. Hit an opponent before the ball and it’s a free kick, or a penalty in your own area. A goal only counts when the shot starts past the dashed line.
The computer plans each flick by trying hundreds of flicks on copies of the table and scoring the results. Amateur, Professional and Legend differ in aim, keeper speed and how many options it weighs up. No figures were snapped at the ankle in the making of this game, because none of them exist.
A quick guide for your first session. The machine wrote the game; we wrote this bit from its README.
Pick a difficulty and a match length: 5 or 10 minutes, or first to score 3.
Press on one of your figures, drag back and let go. The further you drag, the harder the flick.
Follow the arrow and the dashed line, which shows where the ball goes if your figure hits it first.
You keep the ball while your figure plays it and no opponent touches it, but one figure can only flick three times in a row.
Shoot from past the dashed line, or the goal won’t count.
When the computer shoots, move the pointer across your goal, or use the arrow keys, to move your keeper.
These are real screenshots. Somehow these are the least AI-looking images on the site.
