SIDE-ON SWINGING ARCADE × VERY GOOD BOY
Swing from lamppost to lamppost through a flooded town at night, on the extendable lead of a dachshund called Sausage.
⏱ NINE PLACES, THEN ROUND AGAIN · RUNS IN YOUR BROWSER · SAVES AUTOMATICALLY
Nobody has ever asked for this. The machine built it anyway, gave the dog a raincoat and a name, and composed a swung jazz trio to go with it. Sausage is the best thing any AI has ever made, and we will not be taking questions.
THE PROMPT THAT STARTED IT ALL 🧠
> Create a fun game where you swing from lamppost to lamppost through a rainy town centre using a dog on an extendable lead▌
That’s it. That’s the brief. Everything else — every line of code, every pixel, every note — came out of the machine. Typos preserved for authenticity.Disclosure: a human may have intervened afterwards, when the machine made the first upgrade cost more than the GDP of Wales, or decided a run should last eleven hours. Even then, the human only fixed it by typing more prompts and sighing loudly. 🫠
Lead Astray is a side-on arcade game set in Puddlecombe on a rainy night. The streets are flooded, and the only way along them is to swing from lamppost to lamppost on the extendable lead of Sausage, a dachshund in a red raincoat.
Hold the button and Sausage runs up the lead to the next lit lamppost and braces himself on top of it while you swing underneath. Let go and you fly, with Sausage alongside. Release at about 45 degrees for a perfect release, and hold again to send him to the next post before you hit the water. Fall in and you lose a dry sock. You have three.
The walk runs from the High Street through Market Square, the bus station and a country lane to the pier, then goes round again harder. Cats, pigeons, gusts, flickering lamps and double-deckers pushing bow waves all get in the way. The floodwater reflects the street, and every sound, including Sausage’s yap and the jazz, is synthesised in your browser. No dachshunds were stretched in the making of this game.
A quick guide for your first session. The machine wrote the game; we wrote this bit from its README.
Hold Space, the mouse button or the screen. Sausage runs to the next lit lamppost and you swing underneath.
Let go to fly. Release on the way up, at about 45 degrees, for distance and a perfect release.
Hold again before you hit the water to send Sausage to the next post. A paw marks the one he’ll run for.
Wind the lead in with up or W to speed up the swing, and lean with left and right to pump it.
Send Sausage to a lamppost with a cat on it for zoomies, and grab biscuits and tennis balls on the way.
Fall in the flood and you lose a dry sock. Lose all three and the walk is over.
These are real screenshots. Somehow these are the least AI-looking images on the site.
