One sentence. No design document. The machine invented saints, sinners, a bowling combo system, a police force and a fan club that runs into traffic for selfies, and we were too scared to ask why.
THE PROMPT THAT STARTED IT ALL ๐ง
> Create a fun 3D car arcade game cross between carmageddon and crazy taxi called "Karmageddon".โ
Thatโs it. Thatโs the brief. Everything else โ every line of code, every pixel, every note โ came out of the machine. Typos preserved for authenticity.Disclosure: a human may have intervened afterwards, when the machine made the first upgrade cost more than the GDP of Wales, or decided a run should last eleven hours. Even then, the human only fixed it by typing more prompts and sighing loudly. ๐ซ
Karmageddon is a 3D arcade taxi game in a sunny low-poly seaside city: Crazy Taxiโs race against the clock, with Carmageddonโs pedestrians, rival cabbies and smashable everything. You drive a spiked yellow cab, pick up fares at the kerb and follow the big green arrow to their stop before their meter runs out. Every fare buys more time on the clock.
Downtown is a grid of towers. Beyond it, Hill Road winds through the suburbs to the sea, Bayview Road wanders across the south and the coast road curves along the beach to the pier. Four rival cabbies hunt you and steal your waiting fares.
The twist is karma. Saints tip only if nobody gets hurt, sinners tip for every pedestrian you bowl over, and thrill-seekers tip for jumps, drifts and near misses. Bad karma sets the police on you; good karma sends your fans running into the road for a selfie. Push the meter to either end for KARMAGEDDON: Heaven Sent stops the clock and doubles your fares, Hell on Wheels sets the taxi on fire. The moral framework was also generated. It shows.
A quick guide for your first session. The machine wrote the game; we wrote this bit from its README.
You start with 75 seconds on the clock. The game ends when it runs out.
Stop beside a waiting fare in a coloured ring to pick them up: gold for saints, red for sinners, cyan for thrill-seekers.
Follow the green arrow to the green beam of light at their destination and stop in it to drop them off. Faster drop-offs earn more time.
Drive to suit the passenger: clean for saints, carnage for sinners, jumps, drifts and near misses for thrill-seekers.
Ram the rival cabbies nose first to wreck them for cash and ten more seconds, and grab blue clocks, green spanners and orange nitro on the road.
Watch your karma: bad karma brings the police, who bust you if you sit still, and good karma brings fans into the road. Push it to either end for twelve seconds of Karmageddon.
Every update below was also made by the machine. We just pressed Enter again.
These are real screenshots. Somehow these are the least AI-looking images on the site.
